Welcome Message from Patron Hubertus Heil

Every person should have the possibility to live an active and self-determined life – whether with or without disability. This applies also and especially to working life, because to many people work means more than just earning money. It also means to be part of society and having a social life. Especially persons with intellectual disabilities and mental health problems need different forms of support to reach these aims. Therefor it is important to raise awareness for these persons and their needs and to develop solutions tailored to fit their circumstances. The congress of the European Association for Mental Health in Intellectual Disability (EAMHID) provides an international platform for academics, health professionals and policy makers as well as persons with disabilities and their families to exchange views on these issues.

Hubertus Heil

Mr. Hubertus Heil undertook the patronage of the EAMHID congress 2021 in Berlin. He has been Federal Minister of Labour and Social Affairs since March 2018.

The Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS) is a supreme federal authority of the Federal Republic of Germany. Within the Federal Government, the BMAS is responsible for labour law and occupational safety and health as well as for pensions and social security. Inclusion is also a key issue for the federal authority. Opportunities for participation and realisation have already been opened up, barriers and disadvantages were dismantled and social exclusion was reduced. Under Hubertus Heil, the BMAS is consistently pursuing this path to greater social integration and would like to further promote inclusion in Germany and enable people with disabilities to have more self-determination and participation - especially in health care.
